ONCE A KING, NOW A PRINCE

Thank you sincerely for stopping by. I am genuinely flattered that you have taken the time to learn more about my book, a rock and roll memoir entitled Once A King, Now A Prince, as well as my rather unique life.

This is not just a music memoir, but a true story of family dysfunction and an unfiltered look at “the mob, sex, drugs, and rock and roll.” It is unique, at times startling, and often heartbreaking, featuring stories about many of the rock and roll bands I represented, and a life lived inside the highest levels of the music business.

What makes this music business memoir different is the combination of two very different worlds. I grew up in a highly dysfunctional and abusive environment, and later, not without danger and failure, went on to found one of the most successful rock and roll music agencies in the world, American Talent International. Along the way, I was personally responsible for importing many of the British rock and roll bands coming to America in the 1960s and 1970s.

Once A King, Now A Prince is a non-fiction story of a severely abused child whose father convinced him he was evil. As a child, looking in the mirror and seeing his extra-long incisors, he believed he looked like a devil. To survive, with what little tools a child has, he reshaped that belief into something he could live with — that at least he was “the king of the devils.” That is where the title Once A King was born.

Many readers of this music memoir may recognize parts of their own lives in this story of family dysfunction. What makes this journey different is where it leads. From that beginning came a life filled with glitz, danger, celebrity, and a front-row seat inside rock and roll history.

I am sure many readers of this memoir will be able to emphatically state that they, too, have grown up under similar circumstances. Still, not many can say that their life also went on to become one filled with glitz, glamour, and rock and roll music, with all the trappings of celebrity the music business affords, and becoming a part of rock and roll history.

The story continues through school, the draft and efforts to avoid it, and the early ventures that led into the music business. Upon graduation came what could only be described as “an offer I couldn’t refuse.” That offer led to working with a major music agency run by a former mob figure connected to the Capone organization.

This is where the full scope of this rock and roll memoir comes into focus — the intersection of family, the mob, and the music business. From walking into Elaine’s in New York City with Rod Stewart and watching the room turn, to being recognized across the industry, the story captures both the public moments and the private realities behind them.

WHY SHOULD I READ THIS MEMOIR?

You may ask why you should read Once A King, Now A Prince. There are several reasons, each offering a different level of connection.

At its core, this is a music memoir about survival, and a story about family that doubles as a guide of what not to do when raising children. For those who have lived through similar circumstances, it may be deeply emotional. For those who have not, it may be shocking.

There is also the reality of the danger — working alongside and around mob figures, including situations where my life was at risk. And for those drawn to the world of entertainment, this music business memoir offers an inside look at rock and roll bands, the industry, and what it truly means to live within it.

THE POTENTIAL AUDIENCE FOR ONCE A KING, NOW A PRINCE

This rock and roll memoir is written for adults of all backgrounds. The themes of family dysfunction, survival, and music are universal, and the era of rock and roll I write about continues to resonate today. Many of the artists from that time, including Rod Stewart, still perform to audiences across generations.
